Daniel Ricciardo is having a very difficult time these days. The Australian is very slow at the wheel of the otherwise very competitive Racing Bulls and is suffering a spectacular beating from Yuki Tsunoda.
The truly embarrassing thing is that he is taking a much bigger beating than the recently ousted Nyck de Vries… It’s not just the fans who are upset, with the professional world reportedly starting to form an opinion on Ricciardo’s future. If paddock rumours are to be believed, Helmut Marko is already sweating over the likeable driver’s “performance” and has reportedly given him an ultimatum. If he is beaten by Tsunoda for the fourth time in four at the Japanese Grand Prix – which, admittedly, he has every chance of doing against a driver who is fired up by his home crowd – then hands off, legs up. Daniel Ricciardo is not helped by the fact that Liam Lawson, meanwhile, is making a determined move, clearly wanting a seat of his own after last year’s excellent race. If “all goes well”, he will have one soon…
Will the Japanese Grand Prix be Ricciardo's survival?
