It is a very rare event for someone to lead the drivers' standings in F1 (by a huge margin, at that) while only occupying third place in the constructors' championship.
With McLaren's resurgence and Scuderia Ferrari's strong performances, the final phase of the 2024 season is becoming increasingly exciting. Max Verstappen's world title is not yet in danger, but with another win for Lando Norris and a possible zero points for Red Bull Racing, the sides could get so close that they could be considered an open competition.
Until then, however, the Dutchman is accelerating towards a new success, which is not only special because it would be another title defense. In fact, his team is third in the constructors' championship and, if Verstappen still manages to win the world title, he could equal a 41-year-old record, that of Nelson Piquet, who in 1983 became world champion driving a car for a team ranked third in the constructors' championship. After the dominance of the last few seasons, it is extremely interesting to write about this, but this is exactly the situation today.
