In recent weeks, Aston Martin's "allegedly" billion-dollar contract offer to lure Max Verstappen has caused quite a stir. Günther Steiner is convinced that the deal will be successful, as it is an unimaginable sum...
While there is currently no guarantee that Aston Martin will become a winning team, there are signs that point in this direction. Steiner says Verstappen will accept the offer even if the Greens are not competitive:
"A billion is a huge amount. Even if Max were last, he would immediately accept for a billion. Not many teams can afford it, but Aston clearly can, they can put a billion-dollar salary on the table. It's a high bar, an absolute record in the history of F1, probably no one will ever surpass it. I mean, if it's real and not just speculation... I don't think so. The reason why I don't think it will happen is the current driver pairing. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have a contract until 2026, I don't think it's likely that Fernando will leave, and I don't think Lawrence Stroll will sacrifice his son on the altar of the deal either. However, from 2027 the situation will be completely different..." - Steiner left the door open.
