There was some discussion between the elder and the younger Carlos Sainz about which option would be best for Carlos Sainz JR. In the end, the younger Sainz listened to himself and said he had no regrets about his choice.
Indeed, Alpine would have given him a chance, yet he apparently chose the weakest option of all:
"My dream of moving to Red Bull or maybe Mercedes didn't come true. After that, I had to choose between Audi, Alpine and Williams. After visiting the teams, the factories and talking to everyone, a feeling immediately told me: go to Williams, they want to reach a better future. Then when not only my mind but also my heart told me this, I knew that they would be my path. I know that my father had a great time with Audi at the Dakar Rally, he has a great relationship with them, he would have liked me to go to them, but I hope he forgives me for not choosing them. I would like to show him that I made the right decision! When I sat in their car for the first time last year, I immediately felt that they were full of enthusiasm, motivation and wanted to get back to the front of the pack. In addition, the car drove well, our test this year went great, the developments are working. I don't know if all this will be enough, how far we will be from the leading group, but I hope that we will continue to improve as a team, and eventually the time will come when we will become competitive." - Carlos Sainz declared optimistically.
