It has been known for some time that Zandvoort, and consequently Holland, will soon abandon the F1 circuit. There are still two grands prix scheduled on this track, and then… Then, after an initial hesitation, Assen has now made it known that it is ready to take over!
However, the situation is not simple. The true European and Formula 1 traditions mean less and less to the current management of the circus, (unfortunately) despite this, Arjan Bos, president of the Assen track, has made it known that they would be happy to be a change partner in the (albeit terrible) rotary system devised by F1.
“Of course, it is a big dream to bring Formula 1 to Assen. I think when you have invested so much money in a track and also enjoy the support of the public, then – if possible – we absolutely have to try. That is exactly what we are doing and we are very positive about this possibility. We will calmly examine what is necessary to be able to submit a valid application, but for now it cannot yet be said that Zandvoort is saying goodbye and Assen is coming into play.
We have to be cautious. I don't know, we'll see if F1 really wants this race. I would also like to hear the reasons from Zandvoort as to why they are stopping, and I also don't know the ideas of Formula 1 regarding Holland. We know that they want fewer European races, and that they are also thinking about Africa and India. We have to take these aspects into account as well,” Bos reflected.
