Liam Lawson has given his thoughts in a podcast on what he thinks about McLaren, coming from New Zealand, bringing glory to the English.
Lawson, born in this charming island country, is not the first New Zealand F1 driver, as his country has already had a world champion in Denny Hulme. However, it is not them, but the orange McLaren team that has achieved the greatest successes, as it was founded by a local, Bruce McLaren, who also raced first in these colors. Yes, but the team is not tied to the country, as it is to England, to which it is linked in a thousand ways. Lawson lamented this…
“I don’t see any sense in that. McLaren is a New Zealand team through and through, even in its name. It’s a bit like the situation with Red Bull Racing, where they play the Austrian anthem if they win, even though they have their roots in England. McLaren is also based there, but they are still New Zealanders. From a New Zealand perspective, that seems like a big no-brainer, especially considering that one of the biggest legends, Bruce McLaren, is the patriarch of the whole thing,” Lawson said, voicing his legitimate criticism.
