Lewis Hamilton has expressed concern that today he has become almost inaccessible to most categories of entry into motorsport.
The seven-time world champion is also annoyed by the fact that children skip school because of sports:
“It has become incredibly expensive, even just to go karting. I don’t know exactly how much a season costs in the lower categories, but I’ve heard that you have to pay at least three times more than when I started racing. If I hadn’t been supported by McLaren and signed with Mercedes, I would never have been able to have a career like this. It’s very worrying to see how the costs are increasing.
And you also hear a lot about the fact that young people who go karting don't go to school. Their parents put everything on the line with them, and the kids train and race all the time. Most of them will never make it to Formula 1 and they really need to have some skills in civilian life that they can draw on. It would be necessary to regulate this, for example by tying the license to school results. I think that would be the solution, because what we have now is not good,” Hamilton expressed his opinion.
