Mexican Grand Prix, FP2: Sainz finishes in the lead

Gran Premio del Messico, FP2: Sainz ha chiuso in testa

Tamás Jancsovics |

The Mexican Grand Prix continued with a special phase, in the second phase the group was able to test the 2025 Pirelli compounds. This time too we failed to avoid the red flag, this time it was George Russell who destroyed the Mercedes.

As the free practice session began, Russell lost control of his car exiting a corner and had a nasty accident. At the time, we didn’t suspect that this would be the “most exciting” moment of the session, nor that we would have to worry about Russell’s health, as he complained of rib pain in the remaining time. This was exactly the situation, while the Pirelli tyre test was monotonous, boring and silent, with the drivers using unmarked tyres. So we didn’t really know who was using which compound, at most we could deduce it from the lap times. Only at the end of the session did some medium tyres appear here and there, but only those who hadn’t taken part in FP1 could do so, but that didn’t change the overall picture. In the end, Carlos Sainz won FP2 ahead of Oscar Piastri and Yuki Tsunoda, but today we haven’t become any smarter about the balance of power.
