US GP, sprint qualifying: Surprising Verstappen POLE

GP USA, qualifica sprint: Sorprendente Verstappen POLE

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

The United States Grand Prix took place between Friday and Saturday morning with sprint qualifying, where Max Verstappen was fastest.

We witnessed a 12-minute non-stop lap in SQ1, during which the drivers alternated in the lead. Max Verstappen, Kevin Magnussen, Lewis Hamilton, and so on, passed the baton. In the end, Charles Leclerc won this phase, overtaking the aforementioned Hamilton and Verstappen, while among the retirees, with some surprise, we recorded Oscar Piastri, Esteban Ocon, Alexander Albon, and as usual the two Alfa Romeos.

In SQ2, not much has changed: Ferrari was in the lead, with Carlos Sainz being the fastest, followed by Verstappen and Hamilton. Among the retired, two names are especially worth noting: Sergio Perez and Liam Lawson. While the former is struggling with disappointing performances in a car capable of winning a world championship, the latter, after many absences, is managing to maintain this level even in a VISA RB… And by the way, the two Aston Martins and Pierre Gasly have also said goodbye.

In SQ3, for a long time it looked like George Russell could be the winner, and only teammate Hamilton or some Ferrari could pose a threat. In the end, it didn't go that way, Max Verstappen found some extra time and won the sprint time trial ahead of George Russell and Charles Leclerc!
