Although some media outlets claim that Lewis Hamilton was faster than Charles Leclerc during the Pirelli tyre test in Barcelona, Leclerc actually set the fastest time over the two days…
While last week the drivers tested the wet tyres, now it was the turn of the 2026 slicks. As usual, Pirelli shared little meaningful information about the event, but the times were made public. In addition, they also stressed that these times should be taken with a heavy reservation, which makes the above-mentioned fuss incomprehensible. Although the first day of the test session with the participation of Scuderia Ferrari and McLaren saw Hamilton in the lead, in light of today's results - purely statistically - Charles Leclerc can be considered the winner. After different tactics, programs and distances, at the end of the two days Leclerc was the fastest (1:14.971), beating Oscar Piastri (1:15.815) and his teammate, Lewis Hamilton (1:16.759).
In terms of lap count, Piastri was the most diligent (152 laps), followed by the Ferrari duo, both with 74 laps. Pirelli had a productive day, as everyone completed at least one full stint of the Spanish Grand Prix today. The next stop will be Jerez on 13-14, where Alpine, Mercedes and McLaren will continue their work.
