South Africa is campaigning hard to get the country back on the Formula 1 circuit, and not just in the news. For this reason, the country's sports minister has set up a committee that will select the promoter with whom the country can submit its bid in the coming months.
Kyalami, a venue that is not unknown in F1, is said to be the winner. Gayton McKenzie, the minister responsible for sport, is already planning for 2027, as he believes that by then the conditions for the organisation can realistically be met:
“The newly formed committee will define the conditions for the candidacy. By the end of February they will have to present to the government the proposal of the location, which will certainly not bring shame to the country and which will organize the best possible race. What this location will be, is not yet clear, but I would like to add that Kyalami has a history and also has the necessary infrastructure. Look at the climate, look at the roads, the possibility of an urban race is easily outlined. There are investors willing to invest, so I think all the conditions are there…” - said the main protagonist involved in the issue.
