Extraordinary news – thankfully, this time in a positive context – has brought the famous Belgian circuit into the limelight.
King Philippe of Belgium has announced that this year Belgium will issue a commemorative coin in honor of one of the most famous racetracks in the world, if not the most famous.
In the countries that use the euro, it is common practice to issue two types of 2-euro coins with a new design each year. The obverse of these coins commemorates themes that are significant and important to the issuing country or to Europe.
In his communication, King Philippe also wrote that the back of the "Euro Spa-Francorchamps" will feature the circuit's layout, accompanied by two numbers: 7004 and 1921. The first clearly symbolizes the current length of the circuit, while the second represents the year of its opening, since that was the year that races were held there for the first time. There is no official design for the coin yet, but it doesn't hurt to stay alert: you could get a beautiful Formula 1 souvenir, and for free!
