The latest weather forecast suggests there is a good chance of a wet race on Sunday. In and around Melbourne, a large and strong storm system is expected to dominate, promising significant amounts of rainfall.
This would achieve something not seen since 2010: the Australian Grand Prix has never been held in rainy conditions for so long, when Jenson Button took an unforgettable victory for McLaren.
In 2013, a significant rainfall also hit the circuit, but in that case the storm cancelled the qualifying, which was postponed to Sunday morning, due to the unsuitable asphalt.
This year the race is threatened by rain and if we have already talked about 2010 and McLaren, the chances of success for the latter have increased. And it would be just the icing on the cake if the rains arrived earlier and disturbed already on Saturday, thus putting pressure on Mohammed ben Sulayem, who has already been heavily criticized lately. In fact, if the FIA starts to make mistakes already in the long-awaited first race, this would further weaken the position of the president, which is not strong at all...
