Many people laugh at him when it comes to Fernando Alonso. Not one of them is Karun Chandhok, a former F1 driver, who believes that with the arrival of Adrian Newey, Alonso at 45 could easily become world champion.
Chandhok argues that the current situation is very similar to when Newey arrived at Red Bull Racing, which was in the mid-table. There were also major regulatory changes coming to Formula 1 then, and it is exactly the same situation now, from which Chandhok deduces that, just like RB, Aston Martin could also be extremely strong:
“In 2007 and 2008 they were mainly preparing their structure and the big changes of 2009, and although Brawn surprised them with the double diffuser, in the second half of the season they were already the best. We all know how it went: from 2010 to 2013 they won all the world titles, dominating the speed circus for four years. I think that something similar is happening at Aston Martin now, and if they are able to work effectively enough in 2025, in 2026 they could achieve explosive development with the new regulations.
It would be an incredible story if Fernando won his third world title at 44-45 years old with a car designed by Adrian Newey. He certainly believes in it too, that's why he's still racing!” - reflected the Indian expert.
