As we wrote last week, word has been circulating in Las Vegas that the hitherto doomed Andretti could be on the 2026 grid in an interesting twist, under a different banner.
Now the official confirmation has arrived: the Formula 1 World Championship will indeed expand! Here are the statements of those involved:
“The involvement of General Motors and Cadillac in this project is a very important and positive test, and represents a step forward for the development of our sport. We look forward to seeing how the project will develop and grow, we are sure that everyone will help them,” said Stefano Domenicali.
“GM is an incredible global brand with extraordinary partnerships. I fully support the joint efforts of the FIA, Formula 1 and General Motors, and we have already worked out an agreement for the team to be present at the start of the 2026 world championship. The parties are committed and will work together to ensure this process runs smoothly,” said Mohammed ben Sulayem.
“The pinnacle of motorsport is Formula One, and as such it demands continuous innovation from those who participate. It is an honor for GM and Cadillac to join this elite, we have long been committed to taking our sport, Formula One, to the next level, competing with passion and integrity. This is a huge global stage, and we can showcase GM’s engineering expertise and leading technological influence on a new level,” said Mark Reuss, the head of the Americans.
