The 11th team is coming, but it won't be Andretti, right?

Arriva la 11ª squadra, ma non sarà l'Andretti, giusto?

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

It seems that it is not the project, but a certain person that caused the failure of the Andretti F1 team's entry into the Formula 1 circus.

During the Las Vegas Grand Prix, several international industry magazines reported that an agreement for the announcement of the new team was close. However, not in the form we had expected so far. It seems that Michael Andretti's insistence was not appreciated by many, but with his step back, the way could be paved for a new American team. Complicating the picture is also the fact that one of Andretti's main supporters was Mohammed bin Sulayem, known for having bad relations with... everyone.

But now it seems that the situation has changed, with General Motors taking control, relying on Andretti's existing infrastructure. And what is even more important is that they have a status that is also accepted by the other participants of Formula 1. Their European center at Silverstone is already up and running, the team of experts is forming well and, according to the plans, both Cadillac and Andretti would be involved, albeit with less emphasis.

In the meantime, GM has already started working on its own F1 engine program, and according to reports, the first working engine could be ready by 2028. Then, for the 2026 debut, they would start as a partner team, and Ferrari or Honda would probably be in play. This all sounds very exciting, and considering the recent times, we are closer than ever to making the dream of a new Formula 1 team a reality.
