An interesting observation was recently shared by Carlos Sainz's former race engineer. Tom Stallard - who currently works with Oscar Piastri - claims that the Spaniard's work could make McLaren competitive, without him we would not be here.
However, according to Stallard, Sainz learned a lot from those times and was able to sign with Scuderia Ferrari:
“He is a brilliant driver, who has clearly helped make McLaren competitive. Even though Renault did not consider him a real value, with us he showed what potential he had, we were in great need of his services. He contributed enormously to our project, we would not be here at all if he had not been with us during that period. And we helped him to restore his self-confidence, thanks to this today he is considered absolutely one of the best drivers.
Now he has the same beneficial effect on Ferrari that he had with us, he has a huge role in the fact that the reds are fighting for the constructors' championship.” - came an unexpected, but enormous, praise from the rival.
