The World Motorsport Council met today, with a focus on reforming the current points system.
The plan was to drastically intervene in the system, but this was ultimately scrapped. Instead, the extra points system will be eliminated. This was introduced in 2019 for drivers who finished in the top ten and recorded the fastest lap. This will no longer apply from 2025. At the start of the season, there was also talk of points being awarded in future for drivers ranked 1st to 12th instead of the current top 10.
Ultimately, after ongoing discussions, this proposal was discarded and the current system will remain in place.
